Description

A continuous shuffler and dealer, made in France.

Is it fair?

  • Every order comes from a hardware entropy source, NIST SP 800-90B compliant per its manufacturer.

What does it do?

  • 30+ preset games and up to five custom games; deals face down, in order.
  • Dealing: one deck, spent cards go back between hands. Shuffling only: up to 54 cards, two decks in turn; or two decks together, up to 108 cards.
  • Poker or bridge size, up to 54; switch sizes without adjustment.
  • Full 52-card shuffle: 1:20 ± 5 s.
  • Loading: about twice as quiet as the initial Kickstarter model (9–10 dB, our measurement).

Will it last?

  • Nothing to adjust: it times every card and tunes itself, new deck or worn.
  • Card path hand-set to within 0.05 mm; each unit individually calibrated.
  • Motors and solenoid chosen well above what the job asks of them.
  • Modular: nine sub-assemblies and five boards, each replaceable on its own; standard catalogue parts where possible, spares kept in stock.

What's it made of?

  • Mirror-polished stainless steel, walnut-veneered birch multiply, stainless dial and button, 3.5-inch colour screen.
  • 6.9 kg; 318 × 154 × 245 mm (L × W × H).

In the box

  • LeShuffler, 65 W USB-C PD charger, a deck of 100 % plastic cards.
  • Runs on a 65 W USB-C PD power bank, on a single port.
Care

Wood. The walnut-veneered sides can be oiled, typically once a year.

Steel. Any product suitable for polished stainless steel, on a clean microfibre cloth.

Glass. Any glass cleaner, or a lens wipe.

Inside. A feather duster for the carousel, taking care of the compartment separators. For the loading tray and the rollers, a lens wipe, then blotting paper to dry. Unplug the machine first.

Run a few shuffles after cleaning the rollers, so the loader re-learns the grip of a fresh surface.

Design

Form follows function: every part on this machine is doing a job.

The controls are physical, and that was the condition. A rotary dial and a button, in the same place every time, beside a screen that is glass. The dial was on the first brief in 2021 and was kept on one condition — that we could make a good one.

So the dial is machined from solid stainless steel, brushed, with a polished section. It started life on the prototype as a cheap aluminium knob. It is the part you have under your fingers all evening, so it is the part we spent on.

Stainless steel, where anodised aluminium was the other candidate. Smelting primary aluminium takes 14 to 15 kWh of electricity per kilo, and stainless steel returns to the loop with its properties intact. Polished steel is also what this machine should look like: a machine.

The screen sits behind glass, not plastic.

Motors and solenoid are specified above the job. The solenoid is rated for 200,000 cycles and was tested to 300,000. Bearings and shafts are stainless throughout. Components are branded parts bought through authorised distributors.

It comes apart. Nine sub-assemblies, five separate boards, and published repair guides for the parts that wear — some fitted by us, some by you.

The card gate is set by hand, machine by machine, to within 0.05 mm. From then on the machine keeps adjusting itself, card by card, for the rest of its life.

Get your house dealer. Become a guest at your own table.

LeShuffler loads, shuffles and deals every hand, or leaves the dealing to you. Every shuffle comes from true, physical randomness. You choose the game, and it keeps the table moving.

You load the deck. It deals the game.

Put the whole deck in the tray and choose from more than 30 games, from Texas Hold’em and Omaha to Blackjack, Cribbage and Bridge, or from up to five custom games, named and set up on the machine. LeShuffler takes the cards one at a time, shuffles them and deals face down, in order: the right number of hands, the right number of cards. Put the spent cards back between hands and a single deck keeps the game going.

Or you deal, and it shuffles.

Used purely as a shuffler, LeShuffler takes a deck of up to 54 cards. Run two decks in turn: a full shuffle takes about 80 seconds, so the next deck is ready by the time the hand in play is over. For games played with two decks, it also shuffles both together, up to 108 cards.

Real randomness, not a simulation.

Most electronics imitate randomness with a calculation: a formula that turns out numbers which look random but are fixed by the value it started from. LeShuffler doesn’t calculate its shuffles. It reads them from a hardware entropy source on its controller, a live physical signal specified by its manufacturer as NIST SP 800-90B compliant. Each hand starts from an order nobody could have worked out in advance.

Nothing for you to adjust.

Each machine leaves the workshop with its card path set by hand to within 0.05 mm, and calibrated individually. After that, you never touch a setting. As it shuffles, LeShuffler times every card through the loader and tunes itself for the quickest shuffle it can reliably deliver, with a new deck or a worn one, poker or bridge size.

Made to be kept in service.

LeShuffler is designed around replaceable modules, so each section can be serviced on its own. Many of its key components are standard catalogue parts; the others are made to specification and straightforward for us to keep in stock. That gives us a practical way to support the machine well into the future.

Made for your hands and table.

The control you touch all evening is a dial machined from solid stainless steel, beside a stainless steel button and a colour screen behind glass. Around them, a mirror-polished stainless steel shell and walnut veneer sides give LeShuffler the weight and presence of a permanent table object. At 6.9 kg, it is made to sit where you put it and stay there. Designed in France and the UK, made in France.

Questions

Is it really random?

Yes. Each order is drawn from a hardware entropy source on the machine’s controller, specified as NIST SP 800-90B compliant. Every shuffle starts from fresh physical randomness.

What cards does it take?

Poker or bridge-size cards, up to 54, and it moves between the two sizes without adjustment. We recommend 100 % plastic cards, and that is what we put in the box. Cards that are warped, sticky, damp or torn are a problem for a card machine of any kind, LeShuffler included. Sleeved cards are not supported. We could not get a reliable grip on them, and we do not know of a machine that can. We would rather say so than let you find out.

How loud is it?

Quiet enough to leave running at the table. Its loading system is about twice as quiet as the initial model introduced on Kickstarter: we measured a 9–10 dB difference.

Do I need two decks?

One deck is enough for dealing: in game mode, spent cards go back in between hands and the machine keeps working from it. Used purely as a shuffler, running two decks in turn keeps a table moving: one is in play while the other is being shuffled. A separate mode shuffles two decks together, up to 108 cards.

Can it be built into my table?

LeShuffler is designed to sit on the table, at 318 × 154 × 245 mm.

Does it get updates?

Yes, from time to time. You install them from a computer, and your calibration settings are kept.

I backed the Kickstarter — does my machine have a warranty?

Machines from the Kickstarter campaign were provided on an ’as-is’ basis and carry no warranty coverage. Support, however, is not going anywhere: write to us.

Where is it made?

Designed in France and the UK, made in France.
